Binary Options, What Are They?

If we look up the meaning of Binary we find that it means Composed of two parts or two pieces. Similarly the definition of Option means Something that may be or is chosen; choice. So basically they mean the same thing, one or the other, is or isn’t. Anyone familiar with sports betting may recognize this as being very similar to an Over/Under wager. For those not familiar, the sum of the points scored by both teams in a sporting event is called the Total. When you place your bet, the Sports Book will have a number representing what they think the Total will be and if you think the actual Event Total will be greater than the Book’s Total, you bet Over. Consequently, if you think the actual Event Total will be less than the Book’s Total, you would bet Under.
Trading a Binary Option is basically the same as the Over/Under Sports wager except that instead of wagering on whether the Total points scored in an event will be higher or lower than a given number at the end of the event, a Binary Option is based on whether the selling price of various investment vehicles such as Stocks, Market Indices, and Currency Pairs, will be higher or lower than the price it was at when entering the trade.
